The Mystery of the Flying Dutchman is a game developed for kids who enjoy discovering hidden objects and solving puzzles. It is meant to introduce the player in the pirate atmosphere and help those who are not masters of English vocabulary improve their language skills. Basically, you need to follow a map, go to miscellaneous places, find out where specific objects are hidden, solve puzzles to go to a higher level.
However, the game has many weak points. First of all, its performance is defective and you will find the objects, point at them, click the mouse several times and they will not be taken into consideration. Image extremities are displayed on dark colors and it would be almost impossible to find certain objects if you didn't use the hints. You only get one hint per level, which shows a big area where you should look for. Considering the poor quality of images, most of the times hints will be wasted without finding any object. Another weak point is the fact that on each level you will have to go back to places you have already explored on the previous level and find the same objects as previously. And the funny part is that these objects you have already found are placed in the exact same position. So, you have to repeat the same actions each level. The "challenge" would be to find other two or three things which weren't previously displayed.
Even if the game is developed for kids and is meant to be simple, it proves to be extremely boring even for kids. You can recommend it to your children for educational reasons, but except for this strong point it will be, unfortunately, a great disappointment.
